Cofete Beach
Fuerteventura is home to Jandia Natural Park, which has one of the island’s most stunning beaches, Cofete. This wild beach lacks the typical infrastructure but rewards visitors with breathtaking natural beauty, a sense of unrestricted freedom, and incredible views of the island. On one side, the beach is embraced by the sea, while on the other, it’s guarded by mountains and cliffs, creating a breathtaking and majestic landscape. It is the perfect spot for nature lovers and anyone seeking peace and an escape from civilization.
Tip: it is not so easy to reach the beach, so if you plan to rent a car, an SUV is the best option. If you want to travel comfortably and without worries, consider joining an organized tour.

Betancuria
Betancuria, once the capital of Fuerteventura, was originally founded as a defense against pirate attacks. Although the city was eventually destroyed, it was later rebuilt. Today, tourists are drawn to the Iglesia de Santa Maria de Betancuria, one of the oldest churches in the Canary Islands. This church was also destroyed by pirates but was later restored. One of the highlights and best things to do in Fuerteventura is to visit the colorful Oasis Park. The village is perfect for a relaxing stroll – though small, it is incredibly beautiful. In the main square, you’ll be captivated by the flowers blooming year-round.
Just outside Antigua Village, you’ll find red aloe plantations. Indeed, the leaves of aloe grown on the island are not green as we might expect, but a soft pink instead. If you have extra time, consider visiting plantations run by small farmers and private companies. Here, you can not only explore fields of yellow-blooming aloe but also purchase cosmetics, juices, or taste confitado (a sweet treat made from dried aloe and sugar) at the aloe processing factories on site.

Sotavento Beach

Cheese Museum
The Cheese Museum (Museo del Queso Majorero), located near Antigua Village in the heart of the island, is one of the most engaging and interactive museums in Fuerteventura. Corralejo Natural Park

Festivals In Fuerteventura Island
Although Fuerteventura is often considered a haven for those looking for peace, visiting the island during its festive periods will make you realize that the locals know how to party. The biggest and most celebrated event of the year, according to local residents, is the Carnival of Fuerteventura, which traditionally takes place from February to March. During this time, you should not expect silence and peace on the island. During the carnival, nearly every city and town on the island is decorated, locals wear colorful costumes, and take to the streets for a series of events and parties that continue until dawn.
If you plan to visit the island in autumn, the town of Corralejo in Fuerteventura hosts a three-day kite festival – Cometas de La Oliva – in November. How To Get To Fuerteventura
Fuerteventura’s airport is the island’s sole airport, handling all flights. Direct flights to Fuerteventura are available from major cities including Barcelona, Madrid, Malaga, Warsaw, London, Berlin, Milan, and Amsterdam, among others. Fuerteventura can be reached cheaply from the mainland with low-cost airlines Ryanair and Wizz Air.
Most international flights to Fuerteventura include a stopover in another European country. The island is also conveniently reachable by ferry or a short flight from other Canary Islands. Two main companies, Fred Olsen and Naviera Armas, operate ferries to and from Fuerteventura. I recommend checking the schedules and prices of both companies before your trip to find the best option.
Weather In Fuerteventura Island
Fuerteventura enjoys a subtropical climate, with an average annual temperature of 24°C, so summer here lasts all year round. From July to September, temperatures can occasionally reach up to 35°C, with August being the warmest month, averaging 27°C and receiving around 10 hours of sunshine per day. The coldest months are from December to February, with average temperatures around 19°C. December also sees the most rainfall (3-5 days), mostly in the northern part of the island. It is worth knowing that the southern side of Fuerteventura generally experiences warmer temperatures, more sunshine, and less rainfall compared to the north, making it a popular choice for tourists.
On Fuerteventura, strong winds blow almost daily, providing a refreshing relief from the intense summer heat. The average temperature of the Atlantic Ocean around the island ranges from 20-25°C, while in winter it can drop to 17-19°C on some beaches.
